Should you post a negative review?

Writing a negative review is a bit of a touchy subject. I know that some bloggers won't write a negative review and others don't have a problem with it. I'm no stranger to talking about products which didn't work for me but I understand why some people are unsure about it. For me, my blog is all about helping others and making sure you aren't wasting your money on products that don't work. I think as long as you keep it professional and honest you should post a negative review. I asked you guys on Twitter your thoughts on this weeks #BeautyDebate and here's what you had to say!
Thank you to everyone who took part. Would you post a negative review?

p.s I've been short-listed in the Yahoo LFW competition, if you enjoy reading my blog you can vote for me to report live from London Fashion Week here :) thank you!

  1. Negative reviews are tricky, but we can't love everything, right? It's important to be honest, but also polite. Some people take it too far though and insult brands and bloggers who previously gave the product a good review. Everyone is different, so what works for me doesn't have to work for someone else and vice versa. Everyone should take that into consideration instead of saying 'sh** product, if anyone thinks it's good, they are a lying moron'. This just reflects their horrible personality in my opinion and puts people off reading the blog.

  2. Great post thank you! I'm still finding my feet fully and I want to be honest in my reviews but professional. It seems like quite a minefield!!
    Still fun though :)

  3. You know my thoughts on the matter ;) I'm all for negative, providing its not lying or deliberately slating a brand! x

  4. I understand why people feel awkward posting negative reviews but I like it when bloggers are honest, and I think it's important to be specific about why the product didn't work for you - what doesn't work for me might work for someone else. Great post! xx

  5. I do post negative reviews, but I'm never really horrible in them. I don't see the point in posting a review that isn't a true reflection of how I feel about something!

  6. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, provided you choose your words well. I posted a negative review this month because the product didn't work for me at all -- literally -- but I know that it has for others. I'd never slander the brand or the people who work for the brand because that's rude. I think negative reviews can be helpful to give you something to think about -- and unless what you're doing is giving a glowing rave, don't most reviews tend to point out a couple of downsides anyway?

  7. I think negative reviews are what set blogs apart from magazines, I use blogs a lot when making purchases so I like to know that a blogger has a balance view regardless of how they got the product. I do agree 100% with the first tweet though, some brands will think you're a liability but to be honest i'd rather not work with a brand if they want me to lie about their product
